Mauvin Godinho, a congress leader from Goa, an MLA from the Dabolim constituency, passed his resignation as member of State Assembly, and also showed interest in joining the rival, BJP. Nikhant Subhedar, the secretary of the state legislature, said “Godinho submitted his resignation as a member of the Legislative Assembly to the Speaker today.” The resignation has already been accepted.
Godinho cited unhappiness with the party functioning as the reason for leaving the party, and went on to praise the functioning and administration in BJP. He added, “I believe BJP is the party that works for the welfare of the people.” In the erstwhile congress regime, Godinho was the Power Minister, as well as the Deputy Speaker on behalf of the Assembly.
Godinho changed loyalties in the wake of the upcoming Assembly elections, and sided with the currently dominant party in most parts of the nation. “I have decided to resign from Congress and join the BJP on whose ticket I would be fighting the forthcoming Goa Legislative Assembly election,” said the outgoing minister. He claims to have expressed his “disappointment” about party functioning to the high command in Delhi and did mention his interest about joining BJP.
“I met the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi in Delhi. I got fully disappointed with the Congress. After briefing the central Congress leaders about the hardships faced by me, I also informed them that I will be quitting the party,” Godinho said. He had mentioned about his interests of joining BJP on various occasions, and has finally decided to contest the upcoming polls for Goa Legislative Assembly from BJP.
