Shocking! Insults to Our National Anthem at The Kerala International film festival. 6 Arrests Made

You must have already heard of the Honourable Supreme Court ruling regarding the National Anthem. You will be shocked to know that here in Thiruvananthapuram at the Kerala International Film Festival, 6 people, including 1 woman have been taken into custody for not standing up during the playing of National Anthem before a film was screened.

These arrests were made after the activists of the Bhartiya Yuva Morcha made a formal complaint to the Director General of Police (DGP), Loknath Behra. The DGP has further instructed the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to look into the said matter. This Youth Wing of BJP had made complaints on the basis of media reports which said that the delegates at this Film Festival were not standing up in honour of the National Anthem played before the movie screenings.

The DGP had also asked the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy (KSCA) to explain its stance. KSCA Secretary Mahesh B has said, “Delegates will have to comply with the Supreme Court order that due respect should be shown when the national anthem is played.” He has further said that “the reservation of those delegates who do not enter the theater five minutes before the national anthem is played, will be cancelled.”

This film fest which began on December 9th will showcase 490 film screenings in a total of 13 theaters all across the state.

While hearing the matter in the court, the Honourable bench of Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Amitava Roy have noted that, “Only because certain foreigners are here and they may have some problems, should we recall our order? Why should we recall our orders only to oblige foreigners? If there are 40 movies running in different shows, you will have to, well, stand 40 times.”
